Kala & Jeong’s mission was born out a of a desire to shine a spotlight on underrepresented Asian & Pacific Islander (API) artists that exist across the literary, visual, and performing arts spaces. You can learn more about our story and our name on our About page.
- 02
Our focus and mission is to spotlight and spread the word about emerging and regionally-known API artists that have captured our attention in-person, online, or via travel to local venues, art galleries, or museums. We learn about artists, their works, and exhibits, and share them with audiences here on our website and on social media via Instagram. Our Kala & Jeong website also lists Asian & Pacific Islander (API) artists that we’ve invited to join our curated Artist Directory to profile their works and where to find them.

We cover artists in the literary, visual, and performing arts. This includes:
Literary – poetry, novels, playwriting, comics, tv/film writers
Visual – painting, sculpture, photography, video/film, fashion, jewelry design, architecture
Performing –film, music, opera, ballet, composers, orchestra, dance, theater/Broadway, standup comedy
Please note: The lists above are not conclusive or exhaustive. We may cover artists in other/new sub-categories that we come across or discover!

Absolutely not! While we may cover a “famous” artist from time to time, our whole mission is to highlight API artists that may not have the prominence or notoriety of the Picasso’s or Shakespeare’s or Beatles of the world. We intend to primarily cover artists that are emerging or maybe more regionally well-known.
